Pain is life's archenemy,
It almost conquers, but comes up short.
Your second step proceeds your first,
and the first step must be learned.
The day after is the second step,
And two years were spent doing what?
Were they all preparing me for the first step.
We all know the saying, "It was a total slap in the face"
Well, that is an understatement.
A slap and a fist,
Two distant cousins.
I heal with friendship, love, courage.
My hands continue to tremble,
My brain continues to scream,
My paranoia continues to suffocate all emotions.
Reality becomes thrown in your face,
My face.
Regulations, rules, and routine interfere,
Cross your fingers they don't.
My third step is yet to come,
But at least I made it to a second step.
I love my friends for the encouragement,
"Take it, do it," they said.
My ears heard, my brain didn't.
It ignored the logic over emotion.
I don't believe in blessings,
But listening to my friends was a giant one.

I love all of you for helping me stand on my feet,
Thank you for your support, understanding, and advice.
Nobody is blessed more than I am to be surrounded by amazing people.
My life would be hell without you all.
